Donatella Rettore is an Italian singer and songwriter.
After moving to Rome, during the year 1974 she had her debut at the “Festival di Sanremo”, the national festival of Italian music. In 1976 she released her first success, the single “Lailolà” which sold more than 5 million copies in Italy and countries abroad (especially Switzerland and Germany). The year after she went back to the “Festival di Sanremo” but unlike her first visit, this appearance brought no glory and her first two albums did not get a good response.
In 1978 Donatella Rettore decided to turn her name simply into “Rettore”, her looks changed as well as the style of her music, now closer to rock. The year after she reached great popularity with the album “Brivido Divino” which included one of her greatest successes, the song “Splendido Splendente”, which is considered one of the greatest hits in Italian music. In 1980 she released another successful single, “Kobra”, which placed second in another famous Italian competition, “Festivalbar” (which features international artists). The year after, her new single “Donatella” hit the dancefloors and granted her the victory of “Festivalbar”.
These following years are the top of Rettore’s career: sir Elton John wrote three songs for her (“Remember”, “This time”, Sweetheart on parade”) and played a part in the movie “Cicciabomba” that features Anita Ekberg.
From the year 1985, her success began to fade, in terms of selling, even though the quality of her production was remarkable and only in the latest years has been recognized.
In 1994 she regained popularity with the single “Di Notte specialmente”, presented at the “Festival di Sanremo”. The album “Incantesimi notturni” also had an average success.
During 2004 she regained popularity again, starring as a guest in the popular Italian version of “Big Brother” tv show and then competing in another tv show, the music reality “La Fattoria”
Today Rettore is more popular than ever, continuing her concerts around Italia, Europe and the US she also goes on producing more albums and her last production is Brivido Divino.
